When we at Breitbandtrassen-Bau began creating our website, there was a lack of uniform standards for the expansion of FTTC and FTTB networks. We therefore set ourselves the goal of developing an orientation guide that is suitable for both commercial and subsidized expansion projects. Our aim is to provide utilities and local authorities with concrete recommendations for planning and expanding broadband networks. In doing so, we were inspired by the best practices of European countries that have already made significant progress in fiber optic expansion.
The initial spark for this site was the first FTTH projects in Germany that we supervised in broadband line construction. Careful planning and material selection are essential in order to build a high-quality yet cost-effective network. Right from the start, the focus was on using resources sparingly and ensuring long-term network stability.
Our first guidelines only included basic information on feasibility, planning, materials, documentation and in-house cabling. Over time, they grew into a comprehensive guide covering all aspects of broadband expansion, including innovative installation methods, optimized materials and the integration of modern processes such as Building Information Modeling (BIM).
